Cheshire Garden Trust - Edward Kemp's Centenary

17th March 2017

Edward Kemp was Superintendant of Birkenhead Park, the world's first publicly funded park and a leading 19th century designer of parks and gardens.  Many of his commissions were in the North West.  He wrote 'How to Lay Out a Small Garden' which ran to three editions.

Saturday 18th March 2017 at 10.00am at St. Mary's Creative  Space, St Mary's Hill, Chester CH1 2DW  

TALKSElizabeth Davey, local historian will give a talk 'Celebrating a bi-centenary - Edward Kemp - Landscape Gardener - an Overview'.  After tea/coffee, Cheshire Gardens Trust research and recorders will present Cheshire's Kemp Collection focusing on how much the aspirational designs illustrated in Kemp's book became a reality for Cheshire.  The event will finish by 12.15pm allowing attendees to make thier own arrangements for lunch.

WALK:   In the afternoon there  will be a walk round some of Kemp's Chester commissions.  Meet at the Chester side of the Queen's Park suspension bridge at 2pm.  The walk will conclude in Grosvenor Park at about 3.45pm.   Donations to Cheshire Garden Trust.

KEMP'S WALKS IN CHESHIRE PARKS

All walks will take 1.5 to 2 hours, and while generally on paved surfaces, will include some walking on grass and moderate gradients.

All walks are FREE, but donations are welcome - for walks in Grosvenor and Castle Parks to Cheshire Gardens Trust and in Queen's and Congleton Parks to respective Friends groups.
