Study Day: An Adventure with Capability Brown
15th June 2016
The study day wil be hosted by John and Crescent Giffard of Chillington Hall and The Weston Park Foundation at Weston Park. At Chillington Brown's great legacy is the vast lake around which are set a number of temples and bridges - themselves small architectural masterpieces. Transport by tractor and trailer will be provided!. At nearby Weston park we will explore (on foot) the Pleasure Grounds, the Shrewsbury Walk, walled gardens and Temple of Diana in the pastoral parkland which replaced the earler more formal landscape.
In depth knowledge from the guides will enable comparison and contrasting of the landscape at Weston and Chillington affording an insight into why Brown is so special and the significance of his legacy, while providing the opportunity to consider what came before him and what later layers of history have done to his landscapes.
